Our Civil Engineer, PE - Water-Wastewater position is an exciting opportunity for professionals looking to make a positive impact on our planet. This role is based in our Seattle, WA office, with the potential for full-time remote work, and involves active participation in the design and coordination of water and wastewater projects for the Pacific Northwest Water/Wastewater group. The successful candidate will not only engage in engineering design but also develop project management skills and take on responsibilities that contribute to the success of our projects. As a design engineer, you will work on a diverse range of municipal wastewater projects, including treatment facilities, pumping systems, pipelines, and collection systems. You will coordinate multi-discipline design teams, lead the planning and evaluation of preferred alternatives, and perform both conceptual and detailed design calculations and analyses. Your role will also involve preparing detailed engineering reports, construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting documents, ensuring that standard engineering practices are followed and that appropriate documentation is included in various reports and design projects. In addition to design responsibilities, you will provide construction support services, which may include field meetings, submittal reviews, shop drawing reviews, and responding to Requests for Information (RFIs). This position requires a proactive approach to resolving questions and executing work in a safe, timely, cost-effective, and compliant manner. Responsibilities

  • Serve as design engineer on a wide variety of municipal wastewater projects involving treatment facilities, pumping systems, pipelines, and collection systems.
  • Coordinate multi-discipline design teams.
  • Lead the planning, evaluation, and selection of preferred alternatives.
  • Perform conceptual and detailed design calculations and analyses.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting documents.
  • Ensure standard engineering practices and inclusion of appropriate documentation on various reports and design projects.
  • Resolve questions, plan, coordinate, and execute work in a safe, timely, cost-effective, and compliant manner.
  • Provide construction support services (field meetings, submittal review, shop drawing review, RFIs).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering discipline (focus on water and wastewater utility design preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Washington, or able to obtain by comity within 6 months.
  • 6+ years of experience with water and wastewater system design; including the design of activated sludge treatment systems (lagoon, oxidation ditch, sequencing batch reactor and/or membrane), pipelines, pumping systems, collection systems, and/or CSO control systems.
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to determine hydraulic system calculations for pump stations, pressure pipelines, storm and sanitary sewer pipelines, and/or wastewater treatment plants.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, word processing, spreadsheets, scheduling programs required.
  • Strong project management background preferred.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Interest in business and client development.
  • Active membership and participation in water and wastewater professional associations such as PNCWA, APWA or AWWA (preferred).
