About the position

The Civil Engineer position at Bureau Veritas is a pivotal role responsible for managing the engineering and construction of various civil engineering projects. This includes overseeing work related to water mains, water meters, stormwater management, sanitary sewers, and traffic engineering. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Public Works or Capital Improvement Projects, as these experiences will enhance their ability to manage and coordinate complex engineering tasks effectively. The role requires a proactive approach to ensure that all engineering work is performed in compliance with established plans and specifications, particularly in relation to Design-Build contracts. In this position, the Civil Engineer will be tasked with reviewing contractor plans for compliance with Requests for Proposals (RFPs), ensuring technical correctness and constructability. The role also involves coordinating with engineering consultants, making recommendations for changes, and approving plans and specifications. The Civil Engineer will prepare Statements of Qualifications (RFQs) for various engineering services and will play a key role in evaluating and recommending selections for professional services agreements. Additionally, the Civil Engineer will monitor construction contracts and professional services agreements to ensure compliance, process invoices, and attend pre-bid and construction meetings. The position may require some travel for inspections and project management within the assigned area. Overall, this role is essential for ensuring that civil engineering projects are executed efficiently and meet all regulatory and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review the Design-Build contractor's plans and specifications for RFP compliance, constructability, and technical correctness.
  • Coordinate the work of engineering consultants, review and recommend changes, and approve plans, specifications, and bidding documents.
  • Prepare statements of Qualifications (RFQs) regarding professional engineering, construction inspection, construction management, and materials testing services.
  • Review and evaluate SOQs and assist in recommending the selection process, scoping, and negotiating professional services agreements.
  • Analyze and make recommendations on accepting/rejecting construction contract bids, and assist in coordinating pre-bid, pre-construction, and construction meetings.
  • Monitor construction contracts and professional services agreements to ensure compliance and process invoices for work completed under those contracts and agreements.
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as necessary or as assigned.

Requirements

  • Florida Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related engineering discipline.
  • Four (4) years of practical engineering experience, including two (2) years of civil engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of civil engineering practices and procedures involving water, wastewater, stormwater, roadway and bridge plan design, or floodplain management.
  • Skill in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
