About the position

Huitt-Zollars, Inc has a full-time opportunity for a Civil Engineer/Project Manager for our Fort Worth office. The ideal candidate will have at least 8-10 years of experience and will be a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas. This Project Manager position requires experience in the management and design of a wide range of public works projects. The role involves initial project research, plan production, management of plan production staff, plan processing, construction administration, and project close-out efforts. As a Lead Civil Engineer, the successful candidate will prepare preliminary engineering reports, research jurisdictional requirements for incorporation into design and construction drawings, and prepare proposals/contracts and project work plans and schedules. The role also includes preparing design and construction drawings using AutoCAD and information obtained from research activities, coordinating client management and marketing efforts for future work, and preparing GIS exhibits using ArcGIS. The candidate will conduct site visits, document findings, and work directly with clients while directing a staff with varied levels of experience and expertise. The position requires the candidate to attend, record, and distribute meeting minutes, assist with general project correspondence, and prepare graphic materials for presentations or documents. The candidate will lead a team of engineers and drafters, initiate and lead kickoff calls or high-level design calls with clients, and prepare monthly forecasting and client cost estimates when appropriate. The role is crucial in pursuing new business opportunities and ensuring quality control measures are adhered to on projects and daily operations.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a Lead Civil Engineer
  • Prepare preliminary engineering reports
  • Research jurisdictional requirements for design and construction drawings
  • Prepare proposals/contracts and project work plans and schedules
  • Prepare design and construction drawings using AutoCAD
  • Coordinate client management and marketing efforts for future work

  • Take active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients
  • Ensure quality control measures are adhered to on projects and daily operations
  • Review project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget
  • Proactively work with PM to strategize resolving issues that impact project performance
  • Oversee staff deliverables and production assigned to projects

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Licensed PE in Texas with a minimum of 8-10 years of experience
  • Experience with producing accurate and complete construction plans and reports
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment and manage multiple projects with limited supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to train staff and review work for quality assurance
  • Solid leadership and management skills
  • Knowledge of MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Civil3D is a plus
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
