About the position

The Project Engineer/Project Manager at Frank Land Design, PC is responsible for delivering technically sound engineering products that meet client expectations while adhering to budget and timelines. This role involves significant design decision-making, assisting with marketing and business development, and training less experienced staff. The Project Engineer will work collaboratively within a team and provide technical leadership on design tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and independently complete assigned engineering designs using professional judgment.
  • Assist the Project Manager by assigning tasks and schedules to Project Engineers I and II and project team members.
  • Check the accuracy of tasks completed by other engineering and technical staff through formal and informal QA/QC.
  • Make major design decisions that meet external customer needs while coordinating impacts on related project efforts.
  • Identify technical, schedule, or financial issues proactively and seek resolutions from the Project Manager or client.
  • Assist the Project Manager with locality review coordination and correspondence.
  • Aid the Client in bidding or contractor selection if authorized by the Project Manager.
  • Observe construction progress, coordinate with the contracting team, and perform data collection for specific projects.
  • Respond to contractor questions and issues, preparing and issuing project addenda as needed.
  • Utilize strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address routine and non-routine tasks and engineering activities.
  • Participate in creating engineering services proposals, including time schedules and cost estimations.
  • Communicate independently on technical matters with clients and locality representatives if authorized by the Project Manager.
  • Design project components using relevant office software, modeling, and Civil 3D technology, while training less experienced staff on design software.
  • Complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills, utilizing computers to solve problems.
  • Prepare specifications materials through research and manufacturing catalogs for project-specific items.
  • Complete design details and plan sets.
  • Perform research and write objective summary reports for project work or inspections.
  • Assist in preparing engineering and construction cost estimates.
  • Conduct field observations in various environments and on active construction sites as directed by senior engineering staff.
  • Communicate with client staff and internal design teams as directed by senior engineering staff.
  • Accompany senior engineering staff to project, client, and governmental review meetings in various settings.
  • Engage in relevant in-house or external software and design training opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience with Civil 3D (Required).
  • Ability to commute to Pittsboro, NC 27312 (Required).
  • Ability to relocate to Pittsboro, NC 27312 before starting work (Required).
