About the position

A well-established, family-oriented company with 50 years in business is seeking a Civil Engineer-Project Manager specializing in land development and site design projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing projects, client communication, staff mentoring, and the ability to plan, design, and coordinate projects from inception to completion. As a Project Manager, you will represent the company in all communications with clients, ensuring that project statuses and performances are regularly updated to assigned company principals or office managers. Your role will encompass managing the entire project lifecycle, with a focus on civil engineering aspects such as site development, grading, utilities, and drainage design. In this position, you will work on various projects in both the private and public sectors of land development, training and mentoring junior staff while occasionally assisting with design aspects using Civil 3D. Maintaining ongoing client relationships and pursuing new professional connections will be essential, as will preparing technical sections of project proposals and participating in interview presentations. You will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling project team activities, ensuring quality control, and serving as the primary client contact for each project. Additionally, you will coordinate staff resources with other project managers and principals, participate in contract negotiations, and approve client billing while securing contract amendments for changes in scope and fees. Meeting or exceeding performance goals will be a key expectation, along with effectively communicating project requirements to all team members and managing resources according to client directives.

Responsibilities

  • Work on projects from start to finish in both private and public sectors of land development.
  • Train and mentor staff.
  • Occasionally assist with design aspects of projects using Civil 3D.
  • Maintain ongoing client relationships and pursue new project opportunities.
  • Prepare technical sections of project proposals and participate in interview presentations.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and control project team activities, including reviewing technical aspects of work.
  • Define project scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Ensure quality control and serve as the primary client contact for each project.
  • Set goals, evaluate staff performance, and mentor less experienced staff members.
  • Coordinate staff resources with other Project Managers and Principals.
  • Participate in contract negotiations and approve client billing.
  • Secure contract amendments for changes to scope and fees.
  • Meet or exceed group and individual performance goals.
  • Communicate project requirements to all team members.
  • Commit resources of the firm and issue start and stop orders relating to project progress.
  • Provide input to group Principal regarding hiring, lay-offs, and promotions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience working in Civil Engineering (Land Development/Site Design).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Strong knowledge/background with Civil 3D.
  • Familiarity with local codes and regulations.
