About the position

TranSystems is seeking an Engineer 2 to join our Roadway Practice in Charleston, South Carolina. This role involves leading and assisting in various roadway design tasks, including plan preparation, quantity calculation, geometric design, drainage design, and cost estimates. The position offers opportunities for mentorship and development into project management, while collaborating with a team of engineers and technicians.

Responsibilities

• Lead and assist in plan preparation, quantity calculation, geometric design, drainage design, and cost estimates for roadway projects.
• Prepare and modify reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and designs for roadway design projects.
• Review project designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and client contract requirements.
• Develop project scope of work, estimate manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules, and track project progress.
• Make independent decisions on engineering problems and methods, representing the organization in meetings as needed.
• Ensure accuracy of engineering designs and plans, maintaining quality presentation and thoroughness.
• Research design options and document findings, keeping supervisors informed of workload and project changes.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge through workshops, publications, and participation in professional societies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
• Experience with MicroStation/Geopak and Microsoft Office Programs.
• Familiarity with SCDOT plan preparation requirements for roadway projects.
• Strong technical skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.

Nice-to-haves

• 4-8 years of design experience.
• Professional Engineering License.
• Experience with SC Municipalities.
• Experience with Open Roads Design.
