About the position

TranSystems is excited to announce an opportunity for an Engineer 1 to join our Roadway Practice in Ontario, California. This entry-level developmental position is designed for individuals who are eager to apply engineering fundamentals to a variety of projects, including freight railroad, passenger rail and transit, municipal projects, airports, ports, and energy communication. As part of our team, you will be involved in the design and construction processes, contributing to sustainable infrastructure solutions that enhance our communities. In this role, you will assist senior engineers in analyzing information and data to perform routine design tasks. You may also participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection, materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection. You will receive guidance from the Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers regarding the expected outcomes of your work. Your responsibilities will include researching design options, maintaining project databases, preparing environmental impact reports, and keeping the Senior Project Manager informed of any changes in project schedules or scopes. To ensure your professional growth, you will have opportunities to attend educational workshops, review professional publications, and participate in professional societies. You will also assist in the preparation of business proposals and attend Project Manager training to develop your project management skills. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about engineering and eager to learn and grow within a supportive team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in analyzing information and data to perform routine design tasks.
  • Participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing.
  • Research design options and document findings for Senior Project Engineer.
  • Maintain project database by writing computer programs and entering data.
  • Prepare environmental impact and other administrative reports required for project permits.
  • Keep Senior Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in professional societies.
  • Assist in the preparation of business proposals.
  • Attend Project Manager training to develop project management skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical).
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and various engineering software systems (AutoCAD, MicroStation/Geopack, In Roads, Land Desktop, Civil 3D).
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to deal with practical problems in various situations.
  • Excellent client service skills and ability to respond promptly to client needs.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Adaptability to manage competing demands and deal with frequent changes.
  • Dependability in completing tasks on time and notifying appropriate persons of alternate plans.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills to prioritize work activities and maintain project records.
  • Demonstrated quality in work, accuracy, and thoroughness.

  • Completion of the Engineering-in-Training exam is strongly encouraged.
