Responsibilities

  • Review and approve building plans and multi-phased structural designs for compliance with regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to developers and contractors during the plan check process.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders, including city officials and community members, to facilitate the development process.
  • Conduct field inspections as necessary to ensure compliance with approved plans and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of plan reviews and inspections, and prepare reports as needed.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience checking building plans and/or multi-phased structural designs for the Senior Civil Engineer position.
  • Three years of experience checking building plans and/or multi-phased structural designs for the Civil Engineer position.
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, structural engineering, or architecture.
  • A valid California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required due to field duties.
  • Registration as a California Professional Engineer, Architect, Certified Engineering Geologist, or Licensed Geotechnical Engineer, or equivalent, depending on assignment.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an ICC 'Building Plans Examiner' certificate within six months of appointment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with disaster service work as per Government Code Section 3100.
  • Familiarity with local building codes and regulations in California.
