About the position

The Civil Engineer (Structural) position is part of the Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division's Bridge Inspection Program Team. This role involves conducting safety inspections and assessments of bridges and structures owned by the National Park Service and other federal agencies, ensuring compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards. The position is designed for recent graduates and includes a formal training program with mentorship, aimed at developing the skills necessary for a successful career in civil engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Perform safety inspections and inventories of structures to identify deficiencies and assess physical conditions.
  • Conduct field condition surveys of concrete bridge decks.
  • Assist in assessing stream hydraulic characteristics, including scour and erosion.
  • Prepare inspection reports and make recommendations for correcting deficiencies, including updating databases and preparing preliminary drawings.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and meet Pathways Recent Graduate requirements.
  • Educational background in engineering, specifically in civil or structural engineering, from an accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of bridge inspection criteria, structural analysis, and load rating.
