About the position

You will serve as a Civil Engineer responsible for performing professional engineering duties related to a wide variety of structural engineering features pertinent to the new construction and/or modification of navigation locks and dams, flood control and local protection projects, seawalls, harbors, and breakwaters. This position is located in Nashville, TN.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and review design computations for structural metals, masonry, reinforced and mass concrete, slabs, walls, gates, bulkheads and other structural components of dams and large civil works projects.
  • Produce and review structural portions of dam modification studies, design memoranda, construction drawings, plans and specifications at various stages of completion to ensure compliance with USACE policy and design criteria.
  • Develop design details of structural features for structures such as navigation locks and dams and hydraulic steel structures, determining the engineering principles that apply.
  • Serve as Technical Point of Contact on designated civil works projects designed under contractual agreements with AE contractors. Prepares technical scopes of work and support negotiations.
  • Make on-site visits for inspections of proposed construction sites to determine solutions for potential or actual problem areas.
  • Oversee the development of quality management plans to ensure the project and deliverables meet technical/engineering, policy and legal requirements.
  • Manage project execution through all phases to construct, repair and/or rehabilitate civil works infrastructure, facilities and/or to provide deliverables such as studies, reports, assessments, or other solutions.
  • Perform periodic inspection of existing structures and prepares inspection reports in support of the Dam Safety Program, Hydraulic Steel Structures Program, and Bridge Safety Program.
  • Provide technical analyses, review, and mentoring of less experienced staff on projects and systems that involve complex features.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in engineering from an accredited program.
  • One year of specialized experience conducting structural engineering work related to locks and dams or other large civil works projects.
  • Experience in producing documentation of design, construction plans, and specifications.
  • Experience in participating in risk informed modifications to large civil work projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional registration or licensure as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
  • Experience in leading teams in the development of structural design products.
