About the position

You will function as Civil Engineer (Structural) with the Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering & Construction Division Design Branch Structural Section, located in Nashville, TN. The position involves producing and reviewing design computations for structural components of dams and large civil works projects, ensuring compliance with USACE policy and design criteria, and managing project execution through all phases.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and review design computations for structural metals, masonry, reinforced and mass concrete, slabs, walls, gates, bulkheads and other structural components of dams and large civil works projects.
  • Produce and review structural portions of dam modification studies, design memoranda, construction drawings, plans and specifications at various stages of completion.
  • Develop design details of structural features for structures such as navigation locks and dams and hydraulic steel structures.
  • Serve as Technical Point of Contact on designated civil works projects designed under contractual agreements with AE contractors.
  • Make on-site visits for inspections of proposed construction sites to determine solutions for potential or actual problem areas.
  • Oversee the development of quality management plans to ensure the project and deliverables meet technical/engineering, policy and legal requirements.
  • Manage project execution through all phases to construct, repair and/or rehabilitate civil works infrastructure.
  • Perform periodic inspection of existing structures and prepares inspection reports in support of the Dam Safety Program.
  • Provide technical analyses, review, and mentoring of less experienced staff on projects and systems.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • One year of specialized experience conducting structural engineering work related to locks and dams or other large civil works projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional registration or licensure as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
