The Civil Engineer Substation Transmission position at BizTek People, Inc. involves providing comprehensive civil and structural engineering design services specifically for substation and transmission facilities. The primary goal is to ensure that these facilities are constructed on schedule and within the allocated resources. The role requires a strong foundation in civil engineering principles, particularly in the context of utility settings, and involves a variety of tasks that contribute to the successful execution of engineering projects. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for developing plans for sitework, which includes grading, off-site improvements, drainage facilities, fencing, block walls, and landscaping. Additionally, the engineer will complete calculations and prepare designs for substation steel structures, foundations, and control enclosures. The position also entails conducting transmission line engineering analysis, route analysis, and selection, as well as specifying materials and evaluating bid documents and technical submittals to complete the construction package. The engineer will acquire all necessary construction approvals and permits from the relevant authorities and will develop economical, technically feasible, and reliable civil/structural designs for transmission and substation projects with moderate supervision. The role includes assisting in scoping, routing, and siting projects, providing accurate cost estimates, and contributing to the creation and improvement of substation and transmission standards and specifications. Coordination and professional interaction with internal and external customers and stakeholders are essential to ensure project success, along with compliance with all applicable policies, codes, and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provides civil engineering expertise to develop plans for sitework including grading, off-site improvements, drainage facilities, fencing and block walls, and landscaping.
• Completes calculations and prepares designs for substation steel structures, foundations, and control enclosures.
• Conducts transmission line engineering analysis, route analysis and selection, and specifies materials for construction packages.
• Acquires all necessary construction approvals and permits from the authority having jurisdiction.
• Develops economical, technically feasible, reliable transmission and substation civil/structural designs with moderate supervision.
• Assists in scoping, routing, and siting substation and transmission line projects and evaluates alternatives.
• Provides accurate cost estimates and schedule input for company budgeting procedures.
• Assists in the creation and improvements of substation and transmission standards and specifications.
• Coordinates and interacts professionally with internal and external customers and stakeholders to ensure a successful project.
• Ensures compliance with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to the position and company.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school.
• 1 to 4 years of industry experience in civil engineering.
• Demonstrated knowledge of civil, structural, and/or transmission engineering design, preferably in an electrical utility setting.
• Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in using PCs, word processing, spreadsheet, database software, and structural design applications.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in electrical utility projects is preferred.
