About the position

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a dedicated Civil Engineer Trainee for the Field Engineering Section of the Division of Dam Safety. This full-time position focuses on protecting the health and safety of citizens and the environment by preventing dam failures through technical analysis, inspection, monitoring, and compliance. The role offers a mix of office and field work, contributing to projects from conceptual design through construction.

Responsibilities

• Perform journey-level civil engineering work including hydrology and hydraulics for dam safety.
• Conduct general monitoring requirements for dams under the Dam Safety and Encroachments Act.
• Participate in a one-year formal on-the-job training program if filled as a Civil Engineer Trainee.
• Engage in technical analysis and compliance activities related to dam safety regulations.

Requirements

• Four years of civil engineering experience and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board.
• A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field with major coursework in civil engineering.
• An equivalent combination of experience and training including possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in dam safety engineering or related fields.
• Knowledge of the Clean Streams Law and Flood Plain Management Act.
