About the position

The Civil Engineer Trainee position in the Field Engineering Section of the Division of Dam Safety at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is designed for individuals dedicated to protecting the health and safety of citizens and the environment. This full-time role involves a mix of office and field work, focusing on dam safety through technical analysis, inspection, and compliance with relevant laws. The position offers the opportunity for on-the-job training and telework, depending on experience and situation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey-level civil engineering work including hydrology and hydraulics for dam safety.
  • Conduct inspections and monitoring of dams under the Dam Safety and Encroachments Act.
  • Participate in a one-year formal on-the-job training program if filled as a Civil Engineer Trainee.
  • Engage in compliance activities related to the Clean Streams Law and the Flood Plain Management Act.
  • Work on projects from conceptual design through construction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
  • Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • Four years of civil engineering experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in hydrology and hydraulics.
  • Familiarity with dam safety regulations and compliance.
