About the position

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking candidates for its Civil Engineer Trainee program, designed for individuals looking to kickstart their careers in civil engineering. The training is structured to prepare candidates for permanent assignments in areas such as Design, Construction, or Maintenance, depending on the needs of the department and the interests of the trainee. The work schedule for this position is full-time, with hours from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday, including a 30-minute lunch break. There is potential for part-time telework, provided that candidates have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. However, telework eligibility may be limited during the initial probationary period. The starting salary for this position may be non-negotiable, and candidates are encouraged to check their email regularly for updates regarding their application status. To qualify for this position, candidates must have a minimum of four years of civil engineering experience or a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field. Additionally, candidates must possess an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. The position is open to applicants who are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree. The PA residency requirement has been waived for this title, allowing a broader range of candidates to apply.
