About the position

TNP has an immediate opening for a Civil Engineer Graduate or Engineer In Training (EIT) to join an established design team in our Denton, TX office. This position is responsible for the production of city street and TxDOT highway improvements, providing an excellent opportunity to serve state and local governments with the design of roadway, drainage, structural, traffic, and related transportation improvements. The role also emphasizes personal development in engineering, project delivery, and project management skills. As a Civil Engineer, you will be actively engaged in plan production and design of various transportation projects, including city streets, drainage systems, highways, freeways, and traffic management systems. You will perform research and complete technical design tasks under the direction and supervision of a professional engineer. Additionally, you will prepare reports, opinions of probable cost, construction specifications, and contract documents, ensuring that all work aligns with TNP's standards and guidelines. The position requires establishing good communication and working relationships with team members and clients, organizing and scheduling work, and at times, overseeing the work of other team members to accomplish project goals within established budgets and timelines. You will also be expected to effectively coordinate and collaborate with technical experts, other engineering design teams, and sub-consultants, while learning project management skills in accordance with TNP standards.

Responsibilities

  • Performing research and completing technical design tasks for transportation projects under the direction of a professional engineer.
  • Preparation of reports, opinion of probable cost, construction specifications, and contract documents under the supervision of a professional manager.
  • Establishing good communication and working relationships with team members and clients.
  • Organizing and scheduling work, and at times, the work of other team members to accomplish project goals within established budgets and timelines.
  • Effectively coordinating and collaborating with technical experts, other engineering design teams, and sub-consultants.
  • Learning project management in accordance with TNP standards and guidelines.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering
  • Passing of FE Exam & EIT Certification or ability to obtain certification within one (1) year
  • Intent to pursue registration as a Professional Engineer (Civil) in the State of Texas
  • Zero (0) to four (4) years of transportation design experience
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and design criteria
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Suite
  • Experience with MicroStation V8i, Geopak, or OpenRoads is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to develop solid working relationships with other team members in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to effectively organize and schedule work to meet deadlines.
