About the position

Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH) is seeking a talented Civil Engineer VI to join our growing practice in Muskegon, Michigan. This position is open to individuals residing in Muskegon or the surrounding areas. At SEH, the options for civil engineers are vast and varied. You will have the opportunity to engineer better communities through projects that include complete streets, safer sidewalks, sustainable utilities, and the development of trails and parks. Additionally, you may specialize in large-scale projects such as flood control facilities, dams, landfills, harbors/marinas, structural retaining walls, and larger geotechnical projects. Regardless of the project type, you will be involved in all phases, including planning, pre-design, design, contract documentation, bidding, and construction. Your expertise will have a direct impact on the daily lives of community members as they walk, drive, bike, or commute through the areas you help develop. In this role, you will manage multiple projects for a variety of clients throughout western Michigan. You will collaborate with various disciplines within SEH to solve challenges and provide effective solutions. Mentoring junior-level staff will be a key responsibility, helping to foster a positive team environment. You will also represent SEH at project and public meetings with local governments, municipalities, and other agencies, responding to RFQs and preparing project approaches, scopes, and fees required to complete projects. Partnering with business development staff to present proposals to clients and select project teams will also be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple projects for a variety of clients throughout western Michigan.
  • Collaborate with various disciplines within SEH to solve challenges and provide solutions.
  • Mentor junior level staff to help foster a positive team environment.
  • Represent SEH with local governments, municipalities, and other agencies at project and public meetings.
  • Respond to RFQs.
  • Prepare project approaches, scopes, and fees required to complete projects.
  • Partner with business development staff to present proposals to clients, interview for projects, and select project teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan.
  • Experience in proposal writing and client management; demonstrated ability to lead development of new business opportunities and win project proposals.
  • Must reside in Muskegon, Michigan or surrounding areas.

Nice-to-haves

  • Twelve (12)+ years of previous experience in the Civil Engineering field managing projects, leading development of new business opportunities, and winning project proposals.
  • Experience supervising and managing staff.
