About the position

Clark Dietz, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Civil/Environmental Team in Champaign, IL. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of infrastructure projects related to wastewater, potable water, and stormwater. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in the planning, design, and construction phases of these projects, contributing to the development of innovative and sustainable engineering solutions. As part of a multidiscipline consulting engineering firm, you will collaborate with a talented team across various engineering disciplines, enhancing your professional growth and expertise. In this role, you will perform design tasks that include computations and analysis for municipal infrastructure, such as wastewater treatment plants, sanitary sewers, lift stations, and stormwater facilities. You will apply engineering principles to develop effective solutions and evaluate the performance and life cycle costs of municipal infrastructure improvements. Your responsibilities will also include creating detailed drawings and models using designated CAD or modeling software, preparing reports, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting documents, as well as assisting with construction phase services for various infrastructure projects. Additionally, you will interpret construction plans and documents for contractors and clients, interface with operators regarding potential operational interferences, and assist with the review of shop drawings, submittals, change orders, and contractor as-builts. Maintaining project documentation, participating in progress meetings, and assisting in equipment startup and project close-out will also be part of your duties. Effective communication with project stakeholders is essential, and you will be expected to draft correspondence and reports as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs design tasks including computations and analysis for municipal infrastructure including wastewater treatment plants, sanitary sewers, lift stations, and storm water facilities.
  • Applies engineering principles to develop solutions and evaluate performance and life cycle cost of municipal infrastructure improvements.
  • Creates drawings and models following the company's design standards and utilizing the designated CAD or modeling software with limited guidance.
  • Assists with the preparation of reports, plans, specifications, cost estimates, supporting documents and permit applications.
  • Assists with construction phase services for water and wastewater treatment facilities and for sanitary sewer, potable water, and storm sewer infrastructure projects.
  • Interprets construction plans and documents for the contractor and client, interface with operators regarding potential interference with operations.
  • Assists with full or preliminary review of shop drawings, submittals, change orders, punch lists and contractor as-builts.
  • Assists with maintaining project documentation, daily reports of construction site activity, project files, RFIs and submittals.
  • Participates in progress meetings and assists in equipment startup and project close-out.
  • Drafts correspondence, reports and communicates effectively with project stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering and EIT are required.
  • M.S. degree is preferred.
  • Coursework and/or experience (internship or co-op) in hydraulics with emphasis on one or more of the following areas: wastewater treatment, water treatment, water distribution, or storm water modeling.
  • Ability to accurately perform calculations to support detailed design recommendations.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to write technical reports and actively participate in project meetings.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other team members from multiple offices.
  • Experience with AutoCAD (Civil3D), WaterCAD, SWMM, GIS is desired.
  • Experience in hydrologic/hydraulic analysis software including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-GeoRAS, XP-SWMM, Biowin and/or other similar software packages is desired.
  • Valid driver's license is required along with the ability to climb ladders, lift up to 50lbs and work in an outdoor construction environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD (Civil3D), WaterCAD, SWMM, GIS is desired.
  • Experience in hydrologic/hydraulic analysis software including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-GeoRAS, XP-SWMM, Biowin and/or other similar software packages is desired.
