About the position

Thomas & Hutton is seeking a motivated and driven Civil Engineer specializing in Water/Wastewater to join our team in Nashville, TN. This position is ideal for candidates with 2-5 years of experience in a consulting engineering environment, particularly in water and wastewater design. The role involves utility design work, including the design of pipes, treatment plants, tanks, and pump stations. In this position, you will engage in regular client interactions, requiring strong written and verbal communication skills. You will be responsible for conducting effective client presentations and preparing detailed written reports. A solid understanding of hydraulic analysis and design is essential, along with proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D software. Familiarity with WaterCAD, Innovyze, or similar hydraulic system modeling software is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biosystems Engineering, with Professional Engineering registration strongly preferred. You will need to demonstrate progressive experience in planning, design, construction administration, and permitting of infrastructure improvements. The ability to work a regular schedule from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Friday is required, with occasional evening and weekend work. Responsibilities

  • Design and develop water and wastewater utility systems including pipes, treatment plants, tanks, and pump stations.
  • Conduct client presentations and prepare written reports.
  • Engage in regular client interactions, particularly with municipal clients.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D software for design work.
  • Perform hydraulic analysis and design for water and wastewater systems.
  • Participate in planning, design, construction administration, and permitting of infrastructure improvements.
  • Visit construction sites and attend project meetings to meet with clients.
  • Multi-task and prioritize workflow effectively to complete tasks on time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biosystems Engineering.
  • 2-5 years of experience in consulting engineering, specifically in water and wastewater design.
  • Professional Engineering registration is strongly preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D software is required.
  • Experience with WaterCAD, Innovyze, or similar hydraulic system modeling software is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction methods, utility construction materials, and water/wastewater treatment technologies.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic analysis and design.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
