About the position

The Civil Engineer - Water/Wastewater position at Thomas & Hutton involves providing consulting services in water and wastewater design, specifically focusing on utility design work. The role requires strong client interaction and communication skills, as well as experience in a consulting engineering environment. The ideal candidate will have a background in civil, environmental, or biosystems engineering and will be responsible for planning, design, construction administration, and permitting of infrastructure improvements.

Responsibilities

• Design utility systems including pipes, treatment plants, tanks, and pump stations for water and wastewater projects.
• Interact regularly with clients, particularly municipal clients, to understand their needs and provide effective solutions.
• Prepare written reports and conduct client presentations to communicate project progress and findings.
• Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and other hydraulic modeling software to create and analyze designs.
• Attend project meetings and visit construction sites to ensure project specifications are met.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks effectively to meet deadlines.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biosystems Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in water/wastewater design, preferably in a consulting engineering environment.
• Professional Engineering registration is strongly preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and familiarity with WaterCAD or similar hydraulic modeling software.
• In-depth knowledge of construction methods and water/wastewater treatment technologies.
• Strong leadership and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working with municipal clients in water/wastewater projects.
• Basic skills using financial reporting tools to evaluate project performance.
