About the position

DLZ Corporation is seeking a Civil Engineer specializing in Water, Wastewater, and Storm-water to join our team in Columbus, Ohio. Our firm is dedicated to protecting water resources and has a long-standing reputation for excellence in engineering and environmental services. The successful candidate will be an integral part of our multidisciplinary approach to water projects, focusing on developing solutions for water, sanitary, storm, and combined sewer overflow (CSO) conveyance and storage needs. This position involves working on a variety of projects, including water and wastewater treatment facilities, combined sewer overflow facilities, sanitary sewer stations, booster pump stations, and transmission and distribution mains. As a Civil Engineer, you will perform complex engineering and construction assignments with a strong emphasis on water and wastewater treatment plants and associated facilities. You will direct engineers and technical support staff in the review and preparation of plans and specifications for various water, wastewater, and storm-water projects. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the planning and development of these projects from inception through procurement, startup, and construction phases. You will prepare construction cost estimates, monitor construction activities, and coordinate field operations to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. In this role, you will also review proposed contracts to identify significant parameters, timelines, and milestones, and define major task areas. You will be responsible for ensuring that contractual commitments are met and that work is performed according to client specifications. Maintaining effective relationships with all divisions and departments involved in project execution is crucial. You will control and review project forecasts, schedules, cost estimates, and reports, and ensure project quality control. Additionally, you will monitor fees and budgets, report any issues to Program Managers and task leaders, and actively participate in civic and professional activities related to the field.

Responsibilities

  • Perform water, wastewater and storm-water engineering and construction assignments of a complex nature.
  • Direct engineers and technical support staff in the review and preparation of plans and specifications for water, wastewater, and storm-water projects.
  • Oversee the planning and development of Water, Wastewater and Stormwater projects from planning and procurement through start-up and construction.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates, perform construction monitoring, and coordinate field activities.
  • Review proposed contracts to determine significant parameters, time schedules and mileposts and define the major task areas.
  • Direct the planning and development of project scope, procedures, and budget.
  • Ensure contractual commitments are met and the work is being performed per the client's instructions.
  • Maintain effective relationships with members of all divisions and departments responsible for performing services related to the project.
  • Control and/or review project forecasts, schedules, cost estimates and reports.
  • Responsible for project quality control.
  • Monitor fees and budgets, report problems to the appropriate Program Managers and task leaders.
  • Be actively involved in civic and professional activities, societies and organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field.
  • 6 or more years' experience with Municipal Water and/or Wastewater projects.
  • Experience in the evaluation, planning, design and construction of Water & Wastewater Treatment Plants, Pump Stations, Water, Sewer, Stormwater and/or Lift Stations.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Registration in the state of Ohio required, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Proficiency with Project Management software preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites, complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
