About the position

As a Civil Engineer specializing in Water at Stantec Inc, you will be part of a dynamic team that views water management as a holistic system. Our Water business is dedicated to delivering sustainable solutions that ensure water is available where and when it is needed. You will work on various projects that focus on improving, reusing, and protecting water resources for future generations. This role is designed for an intermediate or mid-level civil engineer with a focus on water resources, allowing you to work independently on smaller projects while also collaborating as a team member on larger initiatives. Your expertise will be crucial in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering systems or products for diverse projects, ensuring they meet structural reliability, resource efficiency, and cost-effectiveness standards. In this position, you will engage in a variety of complex tasks, including calculations, fieldwork, and coordination of tasks and personnel. You will have the opportunity to analyze proposed projects, ensuring they align with our commitment to sustainability and innovation. As part of your responsibilities, you may serve as the Engineer-of-Record (EOR) for projects of average complexity and size, leading engineering design tasks under the supervision of the Project Technical Lead or Project Manager. Your role will also involve preparing and revising documentation across various civil phases, including site plans, utility plans, grading plans, and more. You will lead project coordination meetings, participate in client project requirement discussions, and engage in the permitting process, which may involve liaising with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Additionally, you will manage and lead other team members, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. Your contributions will extend to preparing contract documents for construction, conducting quality assurance and quality control on your projects, and assisting in the development of new standards and specifications for the discipline. Responsibilities

  • Work independently on smaller projects and as a team member on larger projects.
  • Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for projects.
  • Perform complex engineering design tasks under supervision.
  • Engage in the development of design through sketches, electronic models, and diagrams.
  • Prepare and revise documentation in various civil phases including site plans and utility plans.
  • Lead project coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis.
  • Involved in the permitting process of projects, requiring meetings with clients and contractors.
  • Manage and lead other team members while working on projects.
  • Assist senior engineers/designers with project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule management.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of project specifications with construction documents.
  • Prepare contract documents for construction, including engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Participate in constructability reviews.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
  • Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the discipline.
  • Prepare portions of engineering project proposals and client communications.
  • Support the civil team during construction with submittal reviews and contract clarifications.

Requirements

  • Intermediate or mid-level experience in civil engineering with a focus on water resources.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate project proposals for structural reliability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Proficiency in engineering design tasks and documentation preparation.
  • Experience in project coordination and client communication.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes and regulatory requirements.
