About the position

Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI) is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our team in Augusta, ME. As a leading power engineering consultant firm, ECI provides a wide range of services including engineering, system planning, technical consultation, project management, surveying, environmental planning, commissioning/testing, and construction services to electric utilities, energy developers, and industrial clients across the United States. The successful candidate will focus on structural engineering and site (civil) design for substations and power delivery facilities, contributing to projects that involve system voltages from 4.16 kV to 765 kV. In the realm of structural engineering, the Civil Engineer will be responsible for developing design criteria, structure design, foundation design, and building design. This includes working with standard shape steel structures, tubular steel structures, fire walls, and related facilities. The foundation design will encompass drilled pier, shallow/pad, and spread footing foundations. The ideal candidate should be adept at learning and applying various software design packages such as Visual Analysis, STAAD.Pro, Risa, LPILE, MFAD, and CAISSON. For site (civil) engineering, responsibilities will include grading and drainage design, access road design (both paved and unpaved), vehicle maneuvering modeling, and haul road analysis. The engineer will also specify and design retaining walls, perimeter walls, fences, and gates, as well as water storm drawing design. Familiarity with hydrology studies and experience with ACAD Civil 3D are preferred. Depending on the candidate's experience and interests, there may be opportunities to perform project management functions, which include scoping, budgeting, scheduling, directing a team of less experienced engineers and designers, project monitoring and control, client interface, and project reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Design access roads, including paved and unpaved sections, and perform vehicle maneuvering modeling.
  • Specify and design retaining walls, perimeter walls, fences, and gates.
  • Prepare water storm drawing designs and interpret hydrology studies.
  • Utilize software design packages such as Visual Analysis, STAAD.Pro, Risa, LPILE, MFAD, and CAISSON.
  • Perform project management functions including scoping, budgeting, and scheduling as needed.
  • Direct a team of less experienced civil engineers, designers, and drafters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
