About the position

The Civil Engineer position at Sowells Consulting Engineers involves providing technical advisory support for the Surface Water Transmission Program (SWTP) in Houston. The role focuses on the development of engineering reports, project management, and hydraulic analysis to improve water systems. The engineer will collaborate with various stakeholders, manage multiple projects, and ensure quality and compliance with design standards.

Responsibilities

  • Applies standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Prepares construction drawings for large diameter water line replacement projects.
  • Reviews the work of drafting personnel to assure accuracy and conformance to design requirements.
  • Prepares proposals, manpower estimates, schedule, and project budgets.
  • Manages project tasks and performs quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
  • Maintains quality parameters per set company processes to meet client expectations.
  • Handles multiple projects and tasks with varying levels of roles and responsibilities.
  • Attends meetings with the Client for project design review and coordination.
  • Ensures effective communication and coordination on assigned projects between all disciplines and other project consultants.
  • Provides expertise and guidance on hydraulic projects, including improvements to water supply and drainage systems.
  • Conducts field studies on hydraulic facilities and recommends strategies to resolve issues.
  • Researches and proposes necessary maintenance work to improve infrastructure.
  • Designs and tests hydraulic systems, forecasting effects on equipment.
  • Uses CAD software to create blueprints for water-control facilities.
  • Determines appropriate materials and equipment for projects and facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
  • Professional civil engineer license (P.E.) required.
  • Three years of related experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with CAD software including GIS.
