The In-House Civil Engineer plays a pivotal role in leading and managing the civil design process for various projects. This position is responsible for ensuring that the civil design teams adhere to established schedules while producing designs that are compliant with regulations and cost-effective. The engineer must maintain a focus on constructability to ensure that the final product meets quality standards from a long-term owner and property management perspective. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of civil engineering principles and practices, as well as the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. In this position, the Civil Engineer will assist the development team in the site selection process for new projects. This involves conducting due diligence on various factors such as traffic engineering, analyzing existing site conditions, utility services, topography, and environmental protection issues. The engineer will also consult with local authorities to understand regional requirements and produce preliminary site layouts as needed. Additionally, the role includes soliciting contractors for various studies and analyses, such as environmental studies, geotechnical services, and traffic impact analyses. The Civil Engineer will be responsible for managing the design and deliverables of secondary consultant disciplines, including land surveyors, environmental professionals, and landscape architects. This includes scoping and procuring proposals, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely delivery of construction documents. Quality control measures and milestones will be established to ensure design readiness and completion, and the engineer will conduct QAQC reviews of drawings for accuracy and thoroughness. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Civil Engineer will work closely with the architectural team to relay design elements and ensure compliance with various regulations, including ADA compliance and utility access. The engineer will also serve as a resource for the construction team, addressing civil design issues and providing support for legal matters related to title and survey issues. Overall, this position requires a proactive approach to managing timelines, production schedules, and the permit/approval process for site-related items.
