About the position

Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI) is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our team in Tigard, OR, with a focus on structural engineering and site design for substations and power delivery facilities. The successful candidate will be involved in various aspects of civil engineering, including the development of design criteria, structure design, foundation design, and site (civil) engineering responsibilities. This role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply various software design packages such as Visual Analysis, STAAD.Pro, Risa, LPILE, MFAD, and CAISSON. In the realm of structural engineering, the Civil Engineer will be responsible for developing design criteria and executing structure designs that primarily consist of standard shape steel structures, tubular steel structures, fire walls, and related facilities. Foundation design will include drilled pier, shallow/pad, and spread footing foundations. The candidate should also be adept at site engineering tasks, which encompass grading and drainage design, access road design, and the specification and design of retaining walls, perimeter walls, fences, and gates. Familiarity with ACAD Civil 3D is preferred, as is the ability to interpret hydrology studies. Depending on the candidate's experience and interests, there may be opportunities to take on project management functions, which include scoping, budgeting, scheduling, directing a team of less experienced engineers and designers, project monitoring and control, client interface, and project reporting. The successful applicant will be subject to client-mandated drug and background checks, and occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design criteria for structural and site engineering projects.
  • Perform structure design, including standard shape steel structures and tubular steel structures.
  • Conduct foundation design, including drilled pier, shallow/pad, and spread footing foundations.
  • Engage in grading and drainage design for site projects.
  • Design access roads, including paved and unpaved sections, and vehicle maneuvering modeling.
  • Specify and design retaining walls, perimeter walls, fences, and gates.
  • Create water storm drawing designs and interpret hydrology studies.
  • Utilize software design packages such as Visual Analysis, STAAD.Pro, Risa, LPILE, MFAD, and CAISSON.
  • Manage projects, including scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and directing teams of engineers and designers.
  • Interface with clients and provide project reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and design tools.
