About the position

As a Civil Engineer at Raise Recruiting, you will play a crucial role in the design and execution of a diverse portfolio of engineering projects that span the globe. This full-time permanent position is based in Hickory, North Carolina, and offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing you to work remotely three days a week while spending two days in the office. Initially, you will be expected to work in the office for the first month to familiarize yourself with the company, its projects, and subcontractors. In this role, you will collaborate closely with other registered engineers and colleagues in the engineering department. Your responsibilities will encompass all aspects of day-to-day design for multi-discipline engineering projects, from initial planning through to the construction phase. You will develop design documents and calculations for civil engineering projects, assist project managers and senior engineers with various tasks, and create CAD drawings that meet client requirements for format, standard, quality, and timeliness. Additionally, you will conduct research and investigations to gather technical reference data pertinent to projects, produce final hard copy and digital documents for client submission, and develop comprehensive design documents that include site layouts, grading, drainage, and erosion control plans. Your role will also involve participating in site visits, conducting field measurements, and engaging with clients to discuss project requirements and design presentations. You will be expected to assist with complex technical issues and ensure the accuracy of technical documents through quality assurance reviews at different project phases.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design documents and calculations for civil engineering projects.
  • Assist Project Managers, Senior Engineers, or Architects with projects, calculations, and drawings as needed.
  • Create CAD drawings consistent with client requirements for format, standard, quality, and timeliness.
  • Conduct research and investigation on appropriate technical reference data pertinent to a project.
  • Produce final hard copy and digital documents suitable for submission to clients consistent with contract requirements, schedule, and budget.
  • Develop design documents including site, building, parking & road layout, site grading, drainage, erosion & sediment control, preparation of detailed construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Use software including AutoDesk products such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, and standard office software such as Microsoft Office.
  • Participate in site visits and conduct field measurements to validate existing site and as-built conditions.
  • Meet with contractors for construction administration and design clarifications as needed.
  • Engage with clients regarding project requirements, concept and design development, and design presentations.
  • Assist with complex technical/design issues and provide guidance to the team.
  • Prepare and ensure accuracy of technical documents through Quality Assurance reviews at different phases of the project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program or related field of study.
  • EI or EIT certification required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • 2 years of experience preferred in a related field.
  • PE preferred or ability to obtain once qualified.
  • Experience with engineering design using computer-based drafting, design, and modeling applications (i.e., AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, HydroCAD, etc.).
  • Must have a valid driver's license with the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to travel 5% - 10% and stay overnight when required.
  • Ability to walk sites, climb ladders, and lift at least 25 lbs.
