About the position

The position involves participating in the formulation of policies and plans related to engineering activities within the National Forest. The role includes implementing project plans, ensuring quality and coordination of work, and providing recommendations for the development and execution of engineering programs. The individual will also be responsible for final evaluation reporting and strategic planning to achieve resource management objectives. Supervision is required less than 20% of the time, primarily overseeing subordinate supervisors and team leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the formulation of policies, objectives, work programs, and plans for engineering activities.
  • Implement and execute project plans for assigned engineering program areas.
  • Ensure quality, quantity, and coordination of all work performed in assigned program areas.
  • Provide recommendations on the development and execution of Forest engineering programs.
  • Conduct final evaluation reporting and recommendations on administrative aspects of the assigned program of work.
  • Participate in the development of strategic plans involving program, project, budget, and organizational elements.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Forest and Regional Office Directors regarding program scope.
  • Plan and direct the overall work of the unit through subordinate supervisors or team leaders.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one year probationary period unless previously served.
  • Must have a degree in Engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience.
  • Must possess specialized experience equivalent to GS-09 level for GS-11 applicants or GS-11 level for GS-12 applicants.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional registration or licensure as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
