About the position

Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI) is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our team in Reading, PA. As a leading power engineering consultant firm, ECI provides a wide range of services including engineering, system planning, technical consultation, project management, and construction services to electric utilities, energy developers, and industrial clients across the United States. The successful candidate will focus on structural engineering and site design for substations and power delivery facilities, contributing to projects that span system voltages from 4.16 kV to 765 kV. In the realm of structural engineering, the Civil Engineer will be responsible for developing design criteria, as well as designing structures, foundations, and buildings. This includes working with standard shape steel structures, tubular steel structures, fire walls, and related facilities. The foundation design will involve various types such as drilled pier, shallow/pad, and spread footing foundations. The ideal candidate should be adept at learning and applying various software design packages, including Visual Analysis, STAAD.Pro, Risa, LPILE, MFAD, and CAISSON. On the site (civil) engineering side, responsibilities will include the development of design criteria, grading and drainage design, and access road design, which encompasses both paved and unpaved sections, vehicle maneuvering modeling, and haul road analysis. The engineer will also be tasked with the specification and design of retaining walls, perimeter walls, fences, and gates, as well as water storm drawing design. Familiarity with hydrology studies and experience with ACAD Civil 3D are preferred. Depending on the candidate's experience and interests, there may be opportunities to perform project management functions, which include scoping, budgeting, scheduling, directing a team of less experienced engineers and designers, project monitoring and control, client interface, and project reporting. Responsibilities

  • Develop design criteria for structural and site engineering projects.
  • Design structures, foundations, and buildings for substations and power delivery facilities.
  • Utilize software design packages such as Visual Analysis, STAAD.Pro, Risa, LPILE, MFAD, and CAISSON.
  • Conduct grading and drainage design for site projects.
  • Design access roads, including paved and unpaved sections, and perform vehicle maneuvering modeling.
  • Specify and design retaining walls, perimeter walls, fences, and gates.
  • Create water storm drawings and interpret hydrology studies.
  • Perform project management functions including scoping, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Direct a team of less experienced civil engineers, designers, and drafters.
  • Monitor and control project progress, interface with clients, and report on project status.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and design tools.
  • A PE license is preferred depending on experience level.
