About the position

You will serve as a CIVIL ENGINEER in the CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS, DESIGN DIVISION, CIVIL BRANCH of NAVFAC NORTHWEST. This position involves performing design analyses and calculations for civil projects, preparing final detailed working drawings, and conducting comparative cost analysis. You will also submit Request for Proposals (RFPs) and project specifications for various facility types, develop complex designs utilizing advanced civil engineering software, and review projects prepared by in-house engineers and architects. Additionally, you will identify areas of risk associated with design and construction and develop mitigation strategies or alternatives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design analyses and calculations for civil projects.
  • Prepare final detailed working drawings and comparative cost analysis.
  • Submit Request for Proposals (RFPs) and project specifications for various facility types.
  • Develop complex designs and analyses utilizing advanced civil engineering software.
  • Review projects prepared by in-house engineers and architects.
  • Identify areas of risk associated with design and construction and develop mitigation strategies or alternatives.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Civil Engineering design software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Knowledge of construction code requirements such as International Building Code and Washington State Department of Ecology Criteria for Sewage Works Design.
