About the position

WSP is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Jacksonville, FL location. In this role, you will provide technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, design, permitting, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in both the public and private sectors. Your responsibilities will include assisting with the research, design, concept development, and construction of various infrastructure elements such as roads, culvert crossings, stormwater collection and conveyance systems, stormwater management systems, and sewage/septic systems. You will be tasked with generating accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding materials, installations, and construction specifications, ensuring that all responsibilities are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. As a Civil Engineer, you will collect, compile, and analyze data from various sources including physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, and geotechnical data for project development, design, and construction. You will perform professional civil engineering work, assisting with research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions to ensure compliance with applicable rules, standards, and permits. Your role will involve incorporating advanced modeling techniques and design requirements to ensure the safety and functionality of end-users and transportation systems, while also preparing data visualizations and technical reports to communicate findings effectively. You will work collaboratively with a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work, establish reference points for construction, calculate costs and quantities of materials, and ensure compliance with specifications and regulatory requirements. Additionally, you will assist in the development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects, conduct engineering studies, and contribute to the preparation of Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). Your ethical decision-making and adherence to WSP's Code of Conduct will be crucial in managing company resources and conducting project work responsibly.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, design, permitting, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects.

  • Prepare data visualizations and technical reports to communicate findings effectively.
  • Assist in the development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
  • Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gather information for design and construction issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline and prior civil design experience.
  • Professional Engineer Certification.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and design/build processes.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, and compliance practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with diverse audiences.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail and results orientation.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, and design software.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS).
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
