About the position

The Civil Engineer position at Amentum involves serving as an on-site technical expert for civil engineering aspects of a construction, maintenance, and repair program at the Watervliet Arsenal (WVA). The role requires performing engineering work in the preparation of civil, structural, and architectural designs, drawings, and specifications for various construction projects, including alterations, renovations, additions, and rehabilitation of both major and minor projects. These projects encompass a range of facilities such as office buildings, laboratories, manufacturing and production facilities, warehouses, and historic family housing, as well as infrastructure like roads, sidewalks, ramps, and stairs. In this position, the engineer will be responsible for designing large and complicated projects that do not have previous precedents, often involving conflicting issues between economic feasibility and management desires. The role includes developing and reviewing designs, plans, specifications, and design analyses to ensure technical adequacy, compliance with government standards, and adherence to best engineering practices. The engineer will also prepare detailed design criteria for new construction and modifications to existing facilities, ensuring that all projects meet the required objectives. The Civil Engineer will prepare plans and specifications for both in-house and contract projects, which involve the construction of new facilities and the modification or renovation of existing ones. This includes creating preliminary plans that outline the size and location of buildings, as well as overall layouts for machine placement, office space, restrooms, storage, elevators, and various systems such as electrical, heating, and air conditioning. The engineer will also accumulate technical data and write specifications to support machinery and equipment, completing these in the form of drawings and descriptive specifications. Additionally, the role requires operating personal computer equipment to develop plans and specifications, utilizing established software systems for generating or editing specifications and performing general engineering computations. The engineer will prepare project cost estimates, draft change orders, supplemental agreements, and findings-of-fact as needed for each project, while collaborating with other engineers in mechanical and electrical fields to contribute civil engineering data.
