About the position

The Civil Engineer position within the Bureau of Land Management focuses on managing and executing engineering projects related to aquatic organism passage structures and major road culverts and bridges. The role involves conducting site surveys, preparing engineering design drawings, managing construction contracts, and providing consultation on fish passage design. The incumbent will work closely with interdisciplinary teams and national level engineers, ensuring compliance with project requirements and facilitating training for other professionals in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as project engineer for aquatic organism passage structures and major road culverts and bridges.
  • Conduct site surveys and prepare engineering design drawings and specifications.
  • Manage and inspect construction contracts as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR).
  • Provide consultation on fish passage design and major culvert design to district and field offices.
  • Develop project specifications and manage Architect-Engineer (A/E) designs.
  • Conduct training for managers, engineers, and specialists in engineering and facility management policy.
  • Work with district interdisciplinary teams during project development.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be a licensed professional engineer.
  • Must possess or acquire a FAC-COR Level II certification within the first year.
  • One year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-12 level in the Federal service.
  • Education requirements include a bachelor's degree in engineering or related fields with specific coursework.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD for design and preparation of construction plans.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical, hydraulics, and hydrologic engineering.
