About the position

The Falcon Group is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Jersey City, NJ office. This position is an immediate opening and is essential for our ongoing projects. The Civil Engineer will be responsible for conducting site evaluations and preparing detailed investigation reports. The role involves preparing design documents, including construction drawings, bid documents, and technical specifications related to various site/civil projects. These projects may encompass stormwater and drainage systems, asphalt or concrete pavement, grading and topography, MSE walls, and other related site features. The Civil Engineer will also be tasked with recording field measurements and performing civil engineering calculations pertinent to the noted project types. In addition to design responsibilities, the Civil Engineer will prepare quantity takeoffs and cost estimates, represent clients in obtaining and evaluating bids, and assist in awarding construction contracts. The role requires managing site/civil construction projects by monitoring contractors' work to ensure conformance to project construction documents, drawings, and specifications. The Civil Engineer will act as the client's representative on-site during construction, reviewing and approving change orders as necessary. A strong knowledge of local and state building codes is essential, along with the ability to apply these codes to the work being performed. Familiarity with local jurisdictional permitting processes and requirements for site/civil project impacts, such as wetlands, land disturbance, and erosion and sedimentation control, is also required. The Civil Engineer will collect post-project feedback to identify issues and opportunities for improvement. Collaboration with team members is crucial to understand the scope of work, budget, goals, deliverables, and timelines to ensure project success. This position will involve a balance between fieldwork on job sites and office work to prepare construction documents and reports.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in Engineering, Construction Management, or a combination of related education and experience.
  • Experience with site/civil work including stormwater/drainage, asphalt and concrete pavement, grading/topography, MSE wall, or other related site features.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required, or ability to obtain within 1-year of hire.
  • OSHA 10 hour certified preferred, otherwise must complete within three months from date of hire, fees covered by Company.
  • Must have or be able to obtain an unrestricted valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to perform technical civil engineering calculations and design construction drawings/documents with limited oversight.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects at one time.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with clients and colleagues.
  • AutoCAD proficiency (preferred).
  • Ability to work individually or with team members and work collaboratively with other disciplines.
  • Ability to work in the field and to travel outside local areas as required.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
