About the position

As a Civil Engineer at System One, you will play a pivotal role in the design and management of various civil engineering projects, primarily focusing on roadways, intersections, ADA curb ramps, parking facilities, and pedestrian infrastructure. Your expertise will ensure that all designs adhere to applicable codes, standards, and regulations, including AASHTO and NJDOT specifications. You will be responsible for developing comprehensive contract plans and bid documents, which include detailed construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates. In this position, you will oversee and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that they are delivered on time and within budget. Collaboration with clients, contractors, and stakeholders will be essential to define project requirements and objectives. You will utilize advanced design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, INROADS, and Civil 3D to create and draft designs, while also staying current with industry trends and advancements in these tools. Regulatory compliance is a critical aspect of your role, as you will ensure that all designs meet local, state, and federal regulations. This includes preparing and reviewing reports, applications, and other documentation necessary for project approvals. Quality assurance will also be a key responsibility, requiring you to conduct thorough reviews of design documents and implement quality control measures throughout the project lifecycle. Effective communication with clients is vital, as you will provide regular updates and address any concerns they may have. You will also present project plans and progress clearly and professionally to clients and stakeholders. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the design of roadways, intersections, ADA curb ramps, parking facilities, and pedestrian infrastructure.
  • Ensure designs meet all applicable codes, standards, and regulations, including AASHTO and NJDOT specifications.
  • Develop comprehensive contract plans and bid documents for various civil engineering projects.
  • Prepare detailed construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Oversee and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to define project requirements and objectives.
  • Utilize AutoCAD, MicroStation, INROADS, and Civil 3D for design and drafting purposes.

  • Ensure all designs comply with local, state, and federal regulations and standards.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in the design of roadways, intersections, ADA curb ramps, parking, and pedestrian facilities.
  • PE license in New Jersey or the ability to obtain one within 12 months; PE license in New York is beneficial.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, INROADS, and Civil 3D.
  • Strong knowledge of AASHTO standards and NJDOT plans, cost estimates, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with standards and procedures from agencies such as NJTA, PANYNJ, NYSDOT, or PennDOT is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently as well as part of a team.
