About the position

Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer to join its collaborative team in Albany, NY. This position plays a crucial role in assisting with the planning, design, and permitting of civil engineering, land development, and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in site/civil engineering design for a variety of projects, including mixed-use developments, shopping centers, residential areas, higher education facilities, federal projects, and other exciting land development initiatives. In this role, the Civil Engineer will be responsible for preparing and modifying various engineering documents, such as reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates, and design plans. Proficiency in engineering and design software, including AutoCAD and Civil 3D, is essential. The engineer will also utilize reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, test results, and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data, all of which are critical for effective project planning and design. The position requires collaboration with team members on project tasks and assignments, as well as the ability to recommend new approaches and ideas that enhance efficiency and service delivery. The ideal candidate will apply their knowledge of engineering principles and advanced mathematics to contribute to the success of the projects they are involved in. Additionally, the role may involve performing other duties as requested by supervisors or project leads.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning, design, and permitting of civil engineering, land development, and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare and modify various engineering documents including reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates, and design plans using engineering and design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.).
  • Effectively use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, test and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data.
  • Recommend new approaches and ideas that continuously improve efficiency and services performed.
  • Apply knowledge and techniques of engineering and advanced mathematics.
  • Collaborate with team members on project tasks and assignments.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 0-2 years of work-related experience.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • EIT Certification or current registration for the FE exam preferred.
  • Prior relevant internship or professional experience in site/civil design, including site planning, grading, stormwater management, drainage, and soil erosion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities.
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • EIT Certification or current registration for the FE exam preferred.
