About the position

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a dedicated and energetic Civil Engineer to join the Water Capital Delivery team. This position plays a crucial role in reviewing capital improvement projects related to water and wastewater pipeline design, management, and construction. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of water and wastewater design principles and be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. As a Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing various projects from the pre-development phase through to post-construction, ensuring compliance with design requirements established by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). You will also provide technical leadership to engineering technicians and other staff members, guiding them in water and wastewater engineering practices. In addition to project management responsibilities, you will supervise and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the section, which includes overseeing pre-development meetings, plats, Board of Adjustment cases, zoning cases, and site plans. Your analytical skills will be put to the test as you analyze and resolve planning and development-related problems, gather data through research, and recommend solutions while monitoring their implementation. This position requires strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with internal staff and external customers, as well as to address construction-related issues in collaboration with Field Operation staff. Responsibilities

  • Review construction plans for residential, commercial, and industrial developments.
  • Serve as a project manager for coordinating complex developers' water/sewer projects from pre-development to post-construction phases.
  • Interpret design requirements established by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
  • Provide technical leadership to engineering technicians and other staff members in water and wastewater engineering.
  • Supervise, coordinate, direct, and monitor the section's day-to-day activities.
  • Oversee pre-development meetings, plats, Board of Adjustment cases, zoning cases, and site plans.
  • Analyze and resolve planning/development-related problems in assigned areas; gather data through research; recommend solutions and monitor implementation.
  • Coordinate with Field Operation staff to address construction-related issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or related field.
  • Four (4) years of increasingly responsible civil engineering experience as a registered professional engineer, including two (2) years performing project management that includes design and contract administration of water and wastewater projects.
  • Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas, or the ability to obtain it within six months of employment.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Texas driver's license.
