About the position

The Civil Engineer position at the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) involves designing site layouts and utilities from concept through completion. The role requires the use of various engineering software and entails progressively complex duties leading to full performance. The engineer will conduct civil engineering studies, prepare designs and specifications, manage projects, and coordinate with external parties to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and agency standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare civil engineering studies, technical reports, and bulletins to provide solutions for unique problems.
  • Perform research and analyze results of investigations to determine causes and risks associated with engineering problems.
  • Prepare civil engineering designs and specifications, ensuring compliance with design standards during construction.
  • Conduct site surveys and prepare drawings of existing conditions for design efforts.
  • Act as Project Manager and Civil Task Leader on assigned projects, overseeing project execution and compliance.
  • Review designs and studies prepared by contractors for quality assurance and compliance with project objectives.
  • Coordinate with external parties such as utility companies and transportation departments on related projects.
  • Provide advice and guidance to stakeholders on engineering problems and solutions.
  • Prepare and present technical bulletins and briefings to communicate findings and recommendations to leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in professional engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Specialized experience in civil engineering, including project management and design.
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, and SAP2000.
  • Ability to conduct research and analyze engineering problems and solutions.
  • Experience in preparing technical reports and documentation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with construction management and scheduling software.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and agency policies in civil engineering.
