About the position

The town of Southborough is seeking qualified applicants for the newly created position of Civil Engineer. This is a non-union, full-time role that will provide essential support to the Department of Public Works (DPW) and will report directly to the Superintendent of Public Works. The position is designed to enhance the town's engineering capabilities and ensure the effective management of public works projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of engineering tasks that are critical to the town's infrastructure and development initiatives. The Civil Engineer will engage in a range of primary duties including civil engineering, surveying, construction inspection, plan review, coordinating permits, design, cost estimating, preparation of bid documents, and project management. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all engineering projects meet the required standards and regulations, and that they are completed on time and within budget. The position offers a competitive salary, with the FY25 salary funded at $36.89 per hour, and includes a generous benefits package, with 75% of the health maintenance organization (HMO) costs covered by the town, along with a comprehensive paid leave program and diverse benefits available to employees.

Responsibilities

  • Perform civil engineering tasks related to public works projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
  • Massachusetts Engineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred or licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • More than five years of related professional experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
