About the position

The Civil Engineering Co-op position at Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in civil engineering projects, particularly in transportation design and infrastructure. This role involves working closely with experienced engineers and project managers, assisting in various tasks related to the planning, design, and analysis of infrastructure projects such as roadways and drainage systems. The co-op spans three semesters, providing a real-world experience that enhances academic learning and prepares students for future careers in civil engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning, design, and analysis of civil engineering projects, including highways, drainage systems, and stormwater management.
  • Participate in field investigations and site assessments to gather data for use in the design process.
  • Help prepare specifications, design drawings, and permit submittals.
  • Support in the development of preliminary project cost estimates and review project plans for compliance with local, state, and federal standards.
  • Collaborate with team members on the review of design work and reports to ensure project specifications and quality standards are met.
  • Attend project meetings, client progress reviews, and pre-construction meetings.
  • Gain exposure to engineering software such as MicroStation, GEOPAK, and HydroCAD.

Requirements

  • Students must be enrolled at NC State University, Clemson University, or Georgia Institute of Technology pursuing a degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • A strong interest in infrastructure design, drainage design, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and stormwater management.
  • Familiarity with engineering software tools such as MicroStation and GEOPAK is a plus, but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • U.S. citizenship or legal residency.

Nice-to-haves
