About the position

The Civil Engineering Design Technician will support land development and infrastructure projects for a leading national architecture and engineering firm. This role involves preparing engineering drawings, collaborating with project teams, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The position emphasizes teamwork within a small team of under 50 people, where each member plays a crucial role in project success.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings, plans, and specifications for various civil engineering projects, including site development, transportation, and utilities.
  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) to create detailed drawings and models based on project requirements and standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to develop design concepts, layouts, and construction details that meet project objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Gather surveys, topographic data, utility locations, local jurisdictional requirements and codes, as well as zoning requirements and other relevant information for project planning and design.
  • Analyze survey data and aerial imagery to assess site conditions, identify constraints, and develop design solutions that optimize land use and infrastructure layout.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, calculations, and design memoranda to support project planning, permitting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Review and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and standards to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation, including drawings, correspondence, and design revisions to facilitate efficient project management and communication.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external consultants, and regulatory agencies to obtain necessary approvals and permits for project implementation.
  • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and suppliers, to clarify design requirements, address inquiries, and resolve technical issues.
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and construction site visits as needed to support project progress and ensure quality control.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or diploma in civil engineering technology or related field; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the civil engineering field, preferably in the land development sector.
  • Proficient in using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex and large-scale projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and standards, including site grading, drainage, and utility design.
  • Detail-oriented approach to work, with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
