About the position

The Highway Engineer position at AECOM involves assisting Project Managers in the planning, design, and oversight of civil engineering projects, particularly focusing on highways, bridges, surface drainage, and utilities infrastructure. The role requires a strong background in civil design and the ability to work independently or as part of a design team, ensuring effective communication with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Manager by providing engineering design support for roadway, hydraulics, hydrology, and civil engineering design projects.
• Perform professional engineering work using standard techniques and procedures in routine engineering tasks.
• Prepare and produce reports, plans, specifications, and estimates.
• Engage in all project aspects including client meetings, design/study development, and site/field visits during design and construction.
• Work independently or lead a design team as required.
• Communicate effectively with project team, government agencies, and clients.
• Assist Project Manager in managing budgets, schedules, technical teams, and resources.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
• 5+ years of previous design experience on transportation projects including Schematic Development and Preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E)
• Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Louisiana or ability to receive it through comity
• Experience designing highway/roadway systems
• Experience with design software including Bentley MicroStation and GEOPAK and/or OpenRoads and/or Autodesk Civil3D
• Familiarity with MS Office 2010 software (Excel, Word, Project)
• Must be a team player.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with ProjectWise, InRoads and OpenRoads
• Experience with GeoPak or InRoads Drainage, SWMM, HY-8, and HEC Programs.
