Civil Engineering Intern - Summer 2025

About the position

As a Civil Engineering Intern at Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in San Diego, CA, you will support both in-office and field activities related to environmental assessments and various engineering disciplines. This internship provides hands-on experience in tasks such as data analysis, technical report compilation, and design efforts, while also offering opportunities to engage with industry experts and develop professional skills.

Responsibilities

• Support in-office activities related to environmental assessments and engineering tasks.
• Tabulate laboratory and field test data and compile technical reports.
• Assist in design efforts including site civil engineering and stormwater management system design.
• Prepare construction drawings and specifications, quantity take-offs, and engineering cost estimates.
• Conduct slope stability and settlement analyses, and prepare permitting documents.
• Engage in landfill base and cover design, and landfill gas collection system design.
• Participate in field activities such as logging geotechnical borings and environmental monitoring.
• Perform Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) tasks including monitoring landfill construction and emissions.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in an undergraduate Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Environmental Engineering program.
• Prior internship or related engineering and construction inspection experience preferred.
• Effective communication skills in person and via email.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in groups.
• Experience using Excel for calculations and data analysis.
• Valid driver's license and transportation required.
• AutoCAD or GIS experience preferred.
