About the position

GAI Consultants is seeking a Civil Engineering Manager 1 to lead the civil discipline within the organization. This role involves managing engineering and drafting staff, overseeing project deliverables, and ensuring quality assurance. The manager will coordinate with various engineering disciplines and project managers, handle budget tracking, and mentor junior staff. The position requires a strong understanding of civil engineering principles and practices, as well as the ability to conduct field assessments and manage project phases.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction to the civil discipline and delegate tasks to engineering/drafting staff.
  • Prepare and check calculations, develop drawings, and track budgets.
  • Manage staff planning, budget/schedule management, and quality assurance/peer reviews.
  • Draft site reports, design narratives, meeting minutes, and project memorandums.
  • Collaborate with other engineering leads for resource and schedule management.
  • Conduct field condition assessments independently.
  • Perform bid and construction phase services, including responding to bidder questions and reviewing submittals.
  • Lead and train staff for field visits to client sites.
  • Analyze complex problems and recommend new practices or changes in projects.

Requirements

  • 12 years of experience in civil engineering, knowledgeable in NPDES Permitting requirements and construction practices.
  • Experience with GIS, AutoCAD, HY-8, Pondpack, Hydraflow, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and other related engineering software.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License with reciprocity in multiple states.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in managing interdisciplinary coordination for proposals.
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with other engineering disciplines.
