About the position

The Civil Engineering Technician in the Land Planning Market at Gresham Smith plays a crucial role in planning, designing, and consulting on projects that contribute to the development of healthy and thriving communities. This position involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to create site plans, manage stormwater, and design public spaces, ensuring that projects meet both client and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate civil engineering work.
  • Conceptualize the initial design approach for major phases of land planning projects.
  • Support senior engineers by performing elementary engineering assignments and collaborating on designs within the team.
  • Design and produce conceptual plans and specifications for design projects involved in site layout, grading and drainage systems, stormwater management, paving, and utility design.
  • Assist in the preparation of improvement plans, specifications, supporting documents, and permit applications for subdivisions, commercial developments, multi-family developments, and public works projects.
  • Check, interpret and revise engineering drawings, engineering reports, plans, and specifications for major projects.
  • Conceive, plan and conduct research in problem areas while resolving a variety of problems.
  • Participate in contract bidding and administration.
  • Supervise and observe the design and ongoing progress of a project, including coordination with city, state, and county officials and other outside agencies.
  • Coordinate projects with clients, contractors, outside consultants, and firm staff.
  • Communicate and interact with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to the project.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of job-related experience with land/site planning and design of water services and large industrial projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D techniques and principles is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Microstation, Geopak, Land Desktop or other CADD software is a plus.
  • Summer Internship experience is acceptable.
