About the position
As an entry-level Civil Technician at Houston Engineering, Inc., you will be trained to assist in various civil engineering tasks, including reviewing project specifications, documenting construction activities, and supporting engineers in project design and development. This role emphasizes collaboration and communication with construction contractors and project managers to ensure compliance with design plans and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Review project specifications and confer with Civil Engineers regarding plan preparation and design changes.
- Drive a company vehicle to construction sites and document civil engineering activities in a daily log.
- Communicate with construction contractors and project managers about construction activities.
- Observe construction site operations to ensure conformance with design plans and material specifications.
- Assist Engineers and Senior Designers with project design and construction plan development using engineering software.
- Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
- Collect topographic survey data using survey instruments.
- Assist Civil Engineer in setting construction stakes for projects.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, GIS, Land Surveying, or equivalent experience preferred.
- General knowledge of construction practices.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D (preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and maps.
- Ability to work extended periods outdoors.
- Above average math and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and availability for travel.
