About the position

The Civil/Environmental Engineer position at proHNS offers a unique opportunity for recent graduates or motivated engineers in training (EIT) with 1-4 years of experience to join a growing firm expanding its services into Washington State. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to develop their engineering skills and become integral members of a dynamic team. As part of this position, you will work closely with a Principal Engineer & Owner who is establishing a new branch office in Skagit County, WA. This mentorship will provide you with invaluable insights and guidance as you navigate various engineering projects. In this role, you will engage in a diverse range of projects that will enhance your design capabilities. Responsibilities will include site development, environmental mitigation and permitting, water and sewer utilities, street and pedestrian facilities, hydrology and hydraulic modeling, culvert design, and stream bank stabilization. You will collaborate with teams of engineers, owner representatives, surveyors, planners, and other engineering disciplines to create construction plans, estimates, and specifications. Many projects will allow you to follow through the construction phase, providing inspection and contract administration support, which is essential for a well-rounded engineering career. The ideal candidate will perform duties in accordance with proHNS policies and procedures, effectively coordinate with a team of engineers and other representatives, and conduct engineering calculations to support design projects. A basic understanding of civil site, utility, stormwater, transportation, permitting, or environmental engineering principles is essential. Proficiency in software such as MS Suites, AutoCAD Civil 3D, EPANET, and HEC-RAS is required, along with the ability to conduct site visits to monitor construction quality and progress. Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations in support of design projects and technical analysis.
  • Effectively coordinate with a team of engineers, inspectors, subconsultants, and other representatives.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to construction sites to monitor the quality and progress of the work.
  • Draft project correspondence, technical specifications, and engineering reports.
  • Tabulate work or pay item construction quantities from construction plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or similar engineering field, from an ABET accredited university.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Proficient understanding of and skills in computers and programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel, Adobe, cloud-based filing systems, online time reporting, AutoCAD Civil 3D and other engineering software applications.
  • Excellent written and oral English skills necessary to communicate with clients, co-workers, and contractors.
  • Ability to read and comprehend permits, codes, specifications, and plans.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and good driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic understanding of civil site, utility, stormwater, transportation, permitting, or environmental engineering principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with WSDOT LAG Manual, municipal/county codes, or similar.
