About the position

WSP is seeking a Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join their Mine Waste Team, focusing on civil and geotechnical engineering projects within the mining industry. This role involves working on challenging projects, performing engineering tasks, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet client objectives. The position offers opportunities for both domestic and international field assignments, contributing to the design and analysis of various engineering projects.

Responsibilities

  • Work within the mine waste team on civil and geotechnical engineering projects for the mining industry.
  • Perform site and material characterization.
  • Design facilities including grading, storage capacity, and construction quantity evaluations.
  • Conduct slope stability, seepage, consolidation, liner system, and settlement analyses.
  • Analyze permafrost soils and conduct cold region related engineering analyses, design, and thermal modeling.
  • Design and analyze surface water management facilities.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting field and laboratory investigations, engineering analyses, and facility designs.
  • Assist in preparing project design packages including technical drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Perform domestic and international field assignments, such as geotechnical investigations and construction monitoring.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or an equivalent field of study.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or ability to complete the exam within 6 months of start date.
  • Strong analytical skills for engineering calculations and analyses.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working in remote settings.
  • Participate in and promote a safety-first culture.
  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with health and safety policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
