About the position

The Civil/Geotechnical Superintendent will play a crucial role in overseeing all on-site construction activities for various projects across the nation. This position requires a seasoned professional who can manage laborers, operators, schedules, vendors, and subcontractors effectively. The Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that projects are completed within the established timelines and budget while adhering to the company's quality and safety standards. The role demands strong leadership skills, as the Superintendent will provide guidance to field staff and ensure the smooth functioning of day-to-day project needs. The majority of the geotechnical work will be focused in the Rocky Mountains, although projects may also take place in other states. The company specializes in completing projects in remote locations, often in mountainous and hard-to-access areas. Therefore, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and meticulous planning are essential for success in this role. The position requires extensive and continuous travel, with some allowance for time to return home. The Superintendent will ensure that site safety measures meet or exceed the parameters set out by the corporate safety manual, safety plan, client requirements, or any other authorities. They will coordinate job personnel, materials, equipment, and all work activities to successfully complete tasks and projects on schedule. The Superintendent will also be responsible for mentoring their crew, promoting the company's safety culture, and achieving project goals through effective communication and leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all on-site construction activities including managing laborers, operators, schedule, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure that site safety measures meet or exceed corporate safety standards and client requirements.
  • Coordinate job personnel, materials, equipment, and work activities to complete tasks on schedule.
  • Ensure projects are constructed according to approved plans, specifications, and applicable policies and procedures.
  • Lead and mentor crew members, promoting the company's safety culture and objectives.
  • Recruit and hire qualified individuals to maintain high-performing teams.
  • Review crew timesheets and manage accurate reporting of labor and equipment hours within project budgets.
  • Complete and oversee all daily work documentation and submit on a timely basis.
  • Conduct pre and post shift toolbox meetings to communicate daily work scope and project goals.
  • Ensure equipment operation is performed safely and within regulatory agency requirements.
  • Resolve plan and specification discrepancies with the project team.

Requirements

  • 8 years' experience in heavy civil and/or geotechnical construction required.
  • 5 years' experience as a Superintendent in heavy civil and/or geotechnical construction required.
  • Extensive experience in geotechnical construction methods including soil nails, ground anchors, micro piles, compaction and permeation grouting, and other shoring and ground improvement techniques preferred.
  • Solid understanding of modern construction practices and equipment operation.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, technical specifications, and survey.
  • Ability to adapt information and communication style to the audience.
  • Skilled at promoting teamwork to establish consensus among team and stakeholders.
  • Capable of identifying key issues and patterns in moderately complex situations and spotting new, less obvious solutions.
  • Ability to travel extensively to different jobsites throughout the United States.
