About the position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Civil Graduate Engineer to join our Infrastructure Design team. This position is ideal for individuals who are eager to learn and grow within the civil engineering field while contributing to public infrastructure projects. The Civil Graduate Engineer will work closely with licensed Civil Engineers, gaining hands-on experience in technical calculations, plan and specification production, and project management tasks. The role requires a commitment to professional development, particularly in pursuit of a Professional Engineering license. Candidates should be organized, self-motivated, and capable of collaboratively solving complex issues on time and within budget. As part of the Infrastructure Design team, the Civil Graduate Engineer will assist in the design of various public infrastructure projects, including water and sanitary sewer lines, roadways, water plants, lift stations, and wastewater treatment facilities. The engineer will also be involved in the preparation of construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents. This role emphasizes the importance of effective communication and teamwork, as the engineer will coordinate with agency staff and internal support teams to address design challenges and ensure project success. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or be in the process of obtaining one within 6-12 months. Additionally, an Engineer-in-Training Certificate (EIT) is required or should be obtained within the same timeframe. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil3D and a basic understanding of civil engineering principles are essential for this role. Responsibilities

  • Assist project team in design of public infrastructure such as water & sanitary sewer lines, roadways, water plants, lift stations, wastewater treatment facilities, etc.
  • Assist project team in preparation of construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents.
  • Prepare engineering reports, feasibility studies, and utility evaluations.
  • Prepare various exhibits and design drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D & Bluebeam.
  • Coordinate with agency staff and internal support teams on designs, analysis, and issues.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite to develop calculations in Excel, reports and letters in Word, and presentations in PowerPoint.
  • Assist with construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D including grading plans; plan and profiles; construction details; storm drain, water and sewer facilities; signage and striping plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months.
  • Engineer-in-Training Certificate (EIT), or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D software.
  • Strong communication skills with team members and clients, demonstrating active listening techniques.
  • Competent technical skills required to complete engineering tasks.
  • Able to proactively pursue design solutions.
  • Detail-oriented but also flexible enough to be big picture/conceptual.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred 2-3 years of experience in Civil Public Infrastructure design.
